FIG Commission 3 Workshop 2000  "Spatial Information Management-Experiences and Visions for the 21rst Century" will be held in Athens 4 - 7 October 2000. The Workshop will last three days, 4 -6 October 2000.

During the Workshop, there will be: 

  • The Annual Meeting of Commission 3
  • Technical tour
  • Technical exhibition and 
  • Social events

On Saturday, 7.10.2000 there will be an excursion and archaeological sightseeing.

The Workshop will be hosted by 

  • FIG Commission 3
  • KTIMATOLOGIO S.A.
  • The Technical Chamber of Greece
  • The Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA)
  • The Hellenic Association of Rural and Surveying Engineers (HARSE)
  • The Department of Rural and Surveying Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The seminar is sponsored by the Technical Chamber of Greece and KTIMATOLOGIO S.A. and 

Special attention will be paid to all issues that are in the special scope of Commission 3:

  • Spatial Information Management - Technical Approaches
  • Spatial Data Infrastructure
  • Facilitating Spatial Information and Knowledge Management for Decision Support through appropriate organizational, political and business structure.
  • SIM issues like:
  • Future scenarios in SIM
  • Needs in Professional Development
  • SIM for Decision Support
  • Forecast/4-dimension
  • Accessibility & visualization of spatial data & information
  • From map sheets to seamless
  • SIM, Integration of Data-Interoperability: multi-source, multi-scale, multi-system
  • Quality Control (Q.C.) of Spatial Information Metadata
  • Standards and regulations for Q.C
  • SIM applications for sustainable development and environmental protection
  • Organizational and Political Aspects

SIM applications in Greece and Technical issues of the Hellenic Cadastre will be addressed through the Workshop thematic sessions.

Call for papers in Acrobat file (11 KB).

Paper Submission: Abstracts should be submitted as MS Word document, if possible by e-mail. Deadline for abstracts (1 page):  15 June, 2000.

Notification of acceptance: 30 June, 2000. 

Delivery of full paper for publishing in the proceedings: 15 July, 2000.

The Workshop will be held at the Training & Conference Centre of the National Bank of Greece, 41-43, Posseidonos Av. 16675 Glifada.

Registration and fees 

Registration for rooms should be made as soon as possible.

Registration fees are

US$420 delegates accommodation for 4 nights, coffee, lunch and dinner for three days, proceedings
US$160 accompanying persons accommodation for 4 nights, lunch and dinner for three days
