Vice President Teo attends the 14th Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors Congress and Board Meeting

FIG was invited to the 14th PAQS Congress and the Board Meeting by the current Chairman of the Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors, Mr TEOH WeiSin (from the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers), to address and interact with the PAQS Board over the proposed collaboration and MoU between FIG and PAQS. The meeting was held at the Resort World Convention Centre, Sentosa Island in Singapore on the 25th July 2010.

Vice President TEO CheeHai represented FIG at the meeting. He informed the PAQS Board about the co-operation opportunities between FIG and PAQS. The meeting was attended by PAQS Board members and observers including members of the ICEC  Council (International Cost Engineering Council) and representatives from ASAQ (Association of South African Quantity Surveyors) and AAQS (Association of African Quantity Surveyors). In his presentation Vice President Teo explained about FIG, her current endeavours and efforts in ‘building the capacity’ to address the challenges faced by humankind as well as the successful partnership and collaboration with bodies such as FAO, UN-Habitat and the World Bank through a presentation entitled “Facing the Challenges, Building the Capacity – Towards the Betterment of Society, Environment and Profession”.

The presentation was followed by a time for interaction in which the proposal for co-operation and MoU was considered positively. Negotiations on the co-operation agreement will now proceed with aim to sign the MoU at the 15th PAQS Congress in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2011. During the discussion it as was stated that the MoU is a direct follow follow-up from the Kuala Lumpur Pact that was signed last year at the sideline of the 13th PAQS Congress.

Vice President Teo was also invited to the President’s Dinner that evening, an event hosted by the President of the SISV Quantity Surveying Division at the Museum of Asian Civilisation.

On 26th July 2010 morning, he attended the opening ceremony of the 14th PAQS Congress. Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Water Singapore and past Chairman of SISV officiated the event.

The 14th Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors Congress was held together with the 7th International Cost Engineering Council Congress. ICEC also held its 37th ICEC Meeting on the sideline of the Congress where Mr. Peter Cox (Australia) stepped aside as the Chair of ICEC at the meeting and will be succeeded by Mr. Murtala Oladapo from NIQS.
