Abstract

The emphasis on research-based decisions in geomatics education is stronger than ever as educators recognize that research evidence adds value to their practices, programmes and teaching materials. This paper describes briefly the definition, history, goals, benefits and limitations of applying action research in geomatics higher education. It sets out the steps of the research process and the criteria for evaluating the research results, and illustrates how to apply some of the criteria by a practical example of research on ‘Instructional methods for deterring geomatics students from plagiarism’.
