FIG and the Sustainable Development Goals - Commission 10

April 2022

FIG Task Force on FIG and the Sustainable Development Goals together with the ten Commissions have worked on their role on the sustainable development goals relevant for their Commission.

Commission Chair Alan Muse gives his Statement on the sustainable development goals in relation to Commission 10 - Construction Economics and Management

Commission 10 - Construction Economics and Management works mostly with the SDG 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation and SDG 11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. Statement from Alan Muse, Chair of Commission 10 about how the commission include the SDG’s in their daily work:

“Commission 10 is focussing on ICMS (www.icms-coalition.org) as an international collaborative standard for construction economics. The third edition includes carbon metrics in the reporting system. Construction accounts for about 40% of carbon emissions, and if cement was a country it would be the third largest emitter of carbon in the world, and therefore de-carbonisation in this sector is imperative to meet the SDG goals. ICMS (of which FIG is a coalition member) will be important in improving reporting of carbon in this sector on a global, consistent and comparable basis. “ - Alan Muse, Chair of Commission 10.
